[1] Identification confirmed by partial label on stretcher, identifying only a “Mr. le docteur Delineau” but giving an address on boulevard Richard-Lenoir in Paris, noted as Auguste Delineau’s address in the 1885 membership list for the Société de Géographie, p. 32. In the preface to the sale of Dr. Delineau’s collection in 1901, the author notes that he had been collecting for 30 years (since 1871), and that he was friends with and bought paintings directly from many modern painters. Boudin is better represented in the catalogue than any other artist, so we can infer that Delineau bought most if not all of his paintings directly from Boudin.

[3] Noted as buyer in catalogue of 1966 Sotheby’s sale. This could possibly be Irish artist John Dixon (1895–1970).
