Label TextIn Nicole at 10, Linda Foard Roberts’s small daughter glances up, caught as she lounges on a bench. With crossed arms, she seems both vulnerable and strong, a girl shielding herself from her mother’s camera and our gaze—preparing for the trials of teenagerhood just ahead.

Roberts tacitly acknowledges how fast life moves by documenting her family, particularly her children. “Moments of time are all that ever really belong to us,” she says. “Through this work I am continually reminded of how quickly time is passing as my children grow into themselves.” As Roberts examines their development, she also reflects upon the changes and challenges of the future.
