On View
Not on viewThe three parts of this untitled work each contain multiple images, recognizable as landscapes, figures, and nightmarish creatures. Urged on by his imagination, Alechinsky employs a free, spontaneous painting technique, first learned through the study of Japanese calligraphy. With ink and brush, he gives form to fleeting thoughts and memories. He trusts his instinct and chance, deliberately beginning each work without plan: "I apply myself to seeking out images that I do not know. When I begin to work, a chain reaction is set off. One image leads to the next. But it's absolutely impossible to predict what the next image will be."ProvenanceLefebre Galleries Object Rights Statement
