Label TextBamboo lime containers were essential for South Seas carvers, for these artists added color contrast to their ornamental two-dimensional designs by filling incised depressions with lime. Sometimes a lime coating was applied to wood before it was painted. Lime was a readily available material, a local substance that could be employed to give drama and contrast to simple art forms.
