On View
On viewHis extremely tactile works are the result of a labor-intensive process that includes painting, torching or burning, hammering, and stamping the surface. Working on tar paper, he builds up the surface with multiple layers of liquids and metals, then presses patterns into it with carved wooden printing blocks. The resulting work undergoes an extraordinary transformation and challenges the viewer’s perceptions as background and foreground seemingly shift back and forth, creating a three-dimensional presence.
