Label TextWith a tangible vibrancy and energy Ryan McGinley’s work documents the lives and activities of his peers and friends of New York City’s Lower East Side. Walking the fine line between consciously staged and casually spontaneous McGinley’s large scale images explore themes of identity, and youth culture—his own circle of friends performing as the self-aware models.

Against an expansive green background the tight camera zoom of White Sock shows only a pair of feet: a bare right foot and a left foot in a stark white sock. The interaction between the two feet suggests a symbolic intimacy.
