Label TextThis sculpture is part of a series of works documenting a daily process of self-reflection by the artist. As Simpson states,
“Nightwork” is what I call the process of reliving the pivotal moments of the day— picking through to find the moments where I felt an emotional charge … I retell myself the story until I am lying there experiencing the same emotional charge that surfaced in the day. It is then that I let the story go. [Each figure is] “based on the subjects they are named for. I noted how each of the thoughts or experiences made me feel and marked them on the small clay bodies. I then adhered shattered clay to these areas to mimic the intensity of this process.”
