Provenance**Created New York or Kingston, NY, probably early 20th century [1] [2]; collection of the artist; her sister, Anna McEntee (Mrs. Frederick O.) Norton (1848–1934), Kingston, NY; her nephew Prof. Winterton Conway Curtis (1875–1966), Columbia, MO; (bequeathed?) to his son, Dr. William Dwight Curtis (1905–1981), Bethesda, MD, 1966?; bequeathed to daughter Elizabeth Anne Curtis (Mrs. Joseph) Cook, Hastings-on Hudson, NY, and later Pittsboro, NC, n.d.; given to NCMA, 2020.

[2] The original metal stretcher keys bear the patent date of 1885, providing a terminus post quem. The painting appears in a photograph of Dillon’s Kingston studio (see Levy, pl.33), reportedly dated the early 20th century.
